Young girl, who doctors said would still be alive if she hadn’t contracted COVID-19, has died after complications with the Coronavirus

The 13-year-old girl, who reportedly had a rare genetic disorder, died Monday morning after complications with COVID-19. The girl’s mother said the young girl had been in and out of the hospital for most of her life, but watching her go through Coronavirus was very hard for the mother to watch her daughter go through. The girl’s doctor reportedly told the mother that her daughter would still be alive if she hadn’t contracted COVID-19.

The 13-year-old girl from Wisconsin, Bella Pape, was well-known and loved in the community, her family said. She reportedly had a rare genetic disorder called Kabuki Syndrome, GM Today reports.

The girl’s mother, Katie Pape, found out that her 13-year-old daughter had COVID-19 a few weeks ago. She said that Bella got a high fever and she ended up in the hospital.

Unfortunately, things took a really fast turn and the 13-year-old girl was intubated for two weeks, where she was in and out of consciousness.

The girl’s mother also said that Bella went through many difficult things in her life: illnesses, bouts of sepsis, a liver transplant and kidney failure. Unfortunately, watching Bella go through COVID was very hard for the mother to watch her daughter go through.

The girl’s doctor reportedly told the mother that her daughter would still be alive if she hadn’t contracted COVID-19.

The unfortunate mother also said that she was thankful that she was able to be there for her daughter’s last moments. She also said that her 13-year-old daughter was surrounded by family when she passed.

Bella is a fighter who kept her spirit throughout the hardships she had faced, the mother added.

A GoFundMe Page has been created, to help the family with funeral expenses and the family’s healing journey, which states:

“The love, purpose, strength, and joy that Bella and her family epitomized and shared during Bella’s life-long battle with Kabuki Syndrome cannot be measured. As one way to honor Bella and her family, please donate to help fund funeral expenses and the family’s healing journey.

Katie fought tirelessly for her daughter and for all kids. She is deeply driven to make the world a better place. Thank you, Katie. We will all be better humans for having known Bella, and we remain here for you and your family. Any amount is greatly appreciated, and please share the link to this page. Also, out of respect for Bella, please continue to take COVID seriously and do all that you can to protect yourself and others.”
