When her 13-year-old son tested positive for Coronavirus, a mother allegedly kept him in the trunk of her car to avoid exposure to the virus. The mom reportedly told the health director that she wanted to avoid being exposed to the virus while driving her son to the Covid testing site for additional testing.
According to a warrant from the DA’s Office, the Texas mother has since been charged with child endangerment.
According to reports, 41-year-old mother, Sarah Beam, was charged after authorities responded to a report that a health services official had found the boy in Beam’s car trunk on January 3 at a Covid testing site.
Per the warrant, the director of health services noted that she was collecting information from cars in a line for Covid testing when she make the shocking discovery.
“She found a female driver, later identified as Sarah Beam, having her child in the trunk of her car,” it revealed. When officers arrived at the scene, the health director told them “the defendant confirmed that her son, K.H., who is a 13-year-old child, was in the trunk of the car due (to) the child having been tested positive for Covid.”
The mother then told the health director that she wanted to avoid being exposed to the virus while driving her son to the testing site for “additional testing.” Concerned, the health official asked Beam to pop the trunk and found the child was lying down inside it. Beam was then informed that her child would not get a test until he was removed from the trunk and placed in the back seat of her car, according to reports.
The official then called the police and by the time she returned, the child was in the back seat of the car. On checking the nearby surveillance camera footage, police were able to corroborate that the child exited the trunk of the car and entered into the back seat of the vehicle on the passenger side. Thus, the mother was taken into custody.
On Sunday, she was released from jail on a $1,500 bond, according to reports. The fact that the mom despite being a teacher did something like this is extremely shocking.
“CFPD was alerted that a child was in the trunk of a car at a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site last week,” said the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District and confirmed that Beam is a teacher there. “Law enforcement conducted a full investigation, resulting in a warrant for arrest. Thankfully, the child was not harmed. Sarah Beam most recently worked as a teacher in CFISD and is currently on administrative leave,” it added.
