Two local residents were arrested in Lawrence on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder

Lawrence, KS – According to the police officials, these arrests are connected with a reported gunfire exchange around 1 a.m. Monday in the 2400 block of Louisiana Street. Lawrence Police Department officers spoke to witnesses at the scene who had heard gunfire, but it did not appear as though anyone was injured, and the department had not received any reports of related injuries as of Wednesday afternoon.

The officers arrested an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, both of the same McLouth address. Both men are suspected of one count of attempted premeditated first-degree murder, and the 18-year-old is also suspected of solicitation of murder in the first degree.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with criminal discharge of a weapon for allegedly firing at an occupied vehicle in the same incident, the Journal-World reported Wednesday.

An attorney for the 17-year-old boy said eyewitnesses told police that the boy was the one being chased by people in another vehicle, and the boy was reportedly not in possession of a firearm. He also mentioned that people in the other car were found in possession of a firearm that was missing six bullets from the magazine.
