The Wichita City Council passed a new ordinance, 7-0, allowing people under 21 at large event venues

KANSAS – According to the city officials, minors under 18 are allowed in until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

Under the new ordinance, minors under 18 are allowed until 11 p.m. all other nights.

They’ve also said that after midnight, venues can only be opened for people 21 and up.

Event owners say it helps some venues that rely more on ticket sales, rather than food and alcohol purchases.

To qualify for the new license, clubs would have to have a minimum seating capacity of at least 850.

The clubs need to have video surveillance and employee training in keeping legal-age patrons from simply handing off drinks to underage members of the crowd.
