Pregnant woman, who decided not to get the COVID-19 vaccine due to confusing advice for expectant mothers at the time, ended up in a coma and 90% of her lungs were damaged after contracting the virus

The mother says she ended up in a coma and was fighting for her life after contracting COVID-19 while she was pregnant with her first baby. After her daughter was born, she was put into a medically induced coma and was fighting for her life on a ventilator. The young mother said that she decided not to get the vaccine due to confusing advice for expectant mothers at the time. She has since had two COVID-19 vaccines and urges other pregnant women to get fully vaccinated. She said that she almost missed her chance to meet her daughter by not getting the vaccine

The 30-year-old mother of one, Georgia Macey, told the Mirror that after her baby daughter was born, she was put into a medically induced coma and was fighting for her life on a ventilator.

Her fiancé, Luke Finch, said that Georgia’s condition quickly deteriorated as she was fighting Covid-19. The 30-year-old mom said that she decided not to get the vaccine due to confusing advice for expectant mothers at the time.

The couple’s baby daughter, Eliza, was reportedly delivered by emergency caesarean six weeks early.

Georgia Macey reportedly told the Mirror: “It was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life, but I was told I’d have to be put into a coma. I didn’t know if I’d ever wake up and see my daughter again. We didn’t have a choice, the doctors said I was in the worst position I could be in, and 90% of my lungs were damaged. It was devastating, my fiancé came to visit me in hospital in his wedding suit, but I wasn’t getting better, and I had to be put on a ventilator.”

Luckily, after spending 10 days in a coma, the mother woke up. But, unfortunately, she was not allowed to see her daughter.

Georgia Macey also told the Mirror: “It was extremely emotional. I was still very weak, it was difficult to hold her, but it was the best feeling in the world to finally meet her.

The 30-year-old mother has since had two COVID-19 vaccines and urges other pregnant women to get fully vaccinated. She said that she almost ‘missed her chance to meet her daughter by not getting it.’

In May 2021, Georgia was reportedly given an out-of-date leaflet saying there was not yet enough research supporting the COVID-19 vaccine. So, she and her fiancé decided against the vaccine. They just wanted what was best for their baby, the couple said. Georgia now regrets that decision, Metro reports.

The couple from UK were planning an intimate wedding at the end of September last year. Unfortunately, 2 weeks before the wedding day, she started feeling sick and was coughing all the time. On Sept. 17, she tested positive for COVID-19. The next day, her baby daughter was delivered.

Georgia Macey told the Mirror: “I was so relieved when I heard Eliza’s little cry. I knew she was alive, but I couldn’t hold her because I had Covid and we didn’t want her to catch it. I barely got to see her before she was taken away, it was awful.”

Luke said that she took his daughter home on Oct. 1. Georgia spent 10 days in a coma and when she woke up, she was reportedly weak and delirious. The unfortunate mother was in isolation until Oct. 24.

The 30-year-old woman says that she no longer has a working spleen and has to battle blood clots. She still has regular checks on her heart and lungs as well.

The couple got married on Feb. 24 and their baby daughter was a bridesmaid.

“It was a very emotional day. Eliza was only five months old so slept most of the time, but it was amazing having her there with us.” the lucky mother said.
