Pfizer has asked the United States government to approve the use of its COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11

Lawrence, KANSAS – According to the statement, the company officials announced that a lower dose of its vaccine worked and appeared safe in a study of the youngsters.

Pfizer and BioNTech on Thursday officially filed its application with the FDA.

Right now, the vaccine was available only as young as 12.

If regulators agree to the request, health workers could begin administering the shots to children within a matter of weeks.

The health officials say that that comes as many parents and pediatricians are clamoring for protection for younger kids.

This story will be updated as new information become available.
