Officer-involved shooting on SE Holliday Pl leaves one dead, KBI investigating

Topeka, KANSAS – According to the Topeka Police Department, this unfortunate incident occurred around 10:07 a.m. Friday morning.

It happened near the Amtrak Station located at SE Holliday Pl.

Topeka Police Department officers responded to a report of a subject armed with a knife chasing and threatening people.

The responding officers reportedly made several attempts to negotiate with the armed individual to achieve a peaceful resolution, including the deployment of less-lethal munitions.

Those attempts were ultimately unsuccessful, and the armed individual charged at the officers placing them in fear for their lives.

Three officers were involved in the officer-involved shooting.

The involved TPD officers were not injured in the incident.

The unidentified individual was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

The individual will not be identified until proper next of kin notifications have been made.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating this incident.
