Mother killed her newborn son and buried the child in the backyard of her home to keep her pregnancy hidden from her family

According to the police officials, the 23-year-old mother was taken into custody Saturday. She is charged with first-degree murder for the death of her infant child. Prosecutors say the infant was less than a month old at the time of his death. The woman allegedly killed her newborn son last year and then buried the child in the backyard of her home in an attempt to keep her pregnancy hidden from her family.

Her name is Alvory Chavez Ramos and she allegedly gave birth to the child at her family’s home in Illinois, sometime between Oct. 31, 2020 and Nov. 30, 2020. The woman wanted to conceal her pregnancy from other members of her family. She gave birth to the child in a bathtub inside the home. When the child began to cry, she allegedly covered the baby’s mouth and nose with her hand to prevent the other members of her family from hearing it.

Prosecutors say the mother covered the baby’s nose and mouth until he stopped moving. She then placed the infant’s remains in a plastic bag and buried him in a hole she dug in the yard of the family’s home in an effort to conceal his existence.

The body was discovered in May 2021. An autopsy determined that the boy’s death was a homicide caused by asphyxia. DNA test confirmed that Chavez Ramos was the boy’s mother. She was arrested on Oct. 23, 2021.

During an interview, the mother told authorities that she had to hide her pregnancy from other members of her family because “she did not want them to be angry with her.” The 23-year-old woman is being held on $95,000 bond.

This incident remains under investigation. This is a developing story and it will be updated as new information become available.
