Local resident is convicted of aggravated robbery and attempted voluntary manslaughter

Lawrence, KS – According to the court documents, his name is Michael Hormell and the sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 21 at the Douglas County Courthouse. 

The 21-year-old man faces sentences of 55-247 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for the aggravated robbery
conviction and 31-136 months for attempted voluntary manslaughter.

The case was the first jury trial in Douglas County District Court in more than year because of the COVID- 19 pandemic and was held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kansas
Bureau of Investigation.
