Kansas Bureau of Investigation investigating Wednesday night officer involved shooting in Andover

Andover, KANSAS – According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the shooting occurred right before 11 p.m. Wednesday.

It happened at 1009 W. U.S. Highway 54.

Andover Police Department officers responded to a report of a suspicious person inside a self-storage facility.

The responding officers made contact with the 25-year-old suspect. 

He was later identified as Nicholas Waggoner.

Waggoner reportedly claimed the storage unity belonged to his family.

The responding officers reportedly found a severed padlock in his possession after a pat-down and asked to see his driver’s license.

The allowed him to go to his pickup truck, KBI said.

The 25-year-old man entered the truck and backed up in the direction of the officers.

One of the responding officers fired his gun and struck the 25-year-old man.

Waggoner suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

No officers were injured in this incident.

This incident remains under investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
