The nurse , Sugar, shared a video on her TikTok account with the following caption: “Be careful when you ask someone to crack your back.” In the video, the nurse tells her social media followers about the dangers of getting your back cracked, including the possibility of paralysis, Newsweek reports.

In the video, the medical professional said she’s seen a lot of different things in the hospital but has never seen anything like her recent patient. Sugar says that one of her patients reportedly asked someone to crack their back. But, unfortunately, something went wrong which resulted in them becoming paralyzed.

Sugar also said that if you if you are experiencing back pain or tension to seek a professional rather than ask a friend to attempt to crack it.

In the video, the nurse can be heard saying:

“What I saw today, I swear to God, I’ve never seen anything like this. For you guys who like to ask people to crack your backs, this is your warning to stop. I have somebody in the hospital, this person asked somebody to crack their back. Something went wrong, and this individual is now paralyzed. I’m talking lower extremities paralysis. Now, this is your warning. If you feel like you’re having back pain, you need some massage, you feel tensed up, get yourself a professional to do these things. Number one, you can lose your legs. Number two, the person that cracked your back will be forever in regret for doing that.”

Many of her followers shared their concerns and opinions on this matter:

“I know someone who went to a chiropractor and ended up paralyzed. I don’t trust anyone with my back.” one user commented.

Other user wrote: “I had a sibling walk on the other ones back and stepped on it wrong and paralyzed her from the waist down. Sibling cried everyday.”

“I had a friend who went to chiro to get her neck adjusted. One day later she had a stroke.” third user said.

“I beg my husband ALL THE TIME! And he always tells me it’s dangerous…won’t ask again! Thank you!” one user commented.

Studies have shown that while there are benefits to cracking one’s back, the risk associated can be significant and sometimes fatal. In addition to a risk of paralysis, back cracking can also lead to a higher risk of stroke and fractures, Newsweek reports.
