A 64-year-old man has died after a driver who had been fleeing from police rear-ended his pickup, sending it crashing into a power pole

KANSAS – According to the police officials, this incident occurred approximately at 2:40 p.m. Thursday at 6th Avenue and Chestnut Street in Emporia.

Honda Civic crashed into the rear of a Ford F-150. The truck then hit a utility pole.

The driver of the pickup, Steven Henry, of Emporia, died at the scene.

The 23-year-old man driving the Honda, DeVawn Mitchell, was hospitalized and then arrested for reckless second-degree murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
