A 36-year-old man accused of fatally striking a young boy with a pickup truck in downtown Wichita has been charged

KANSAS – His name is Marcus Downey and he made his first court appearance Tuesday where he was charged with fleeing an accident and driving with a suspended license. 

Wichita police officers responded around 10 a.m. Monday to a hit-and-run at Washington and Waterman. The boy and his mother were crossing the street when the pickup struck the child. 

The truck fled the scene and the child died at a local hospital. The victim was a 4-year-old boy. 

The officers found the Chevy Avalanche about 100 yards away and Downey was initially held in custody for questioning. His bond is set at $75,000.
