Lawrence, KS – Douglas County deputies reopened U.S. Highway 59 from N 1000 Road to N 650 Road as of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Travel may be limited to one lane in some areas as firefighters continue to address a grassfire nearby.
The fire began after a tow truck caught fire near the intersection of U.S. 59 and N 650 Road.
Although the initial vehicle fire was extinguished by the Kansas Highway Patrol, the truck later reignited, sparking a grassfire.
Deputies had temporarily closed the highway to allow firefighters safe access. Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the area.
