21-year-old man dead following head-on crash involving two semi trucks in Meade County

Meade County, KANSAS – Kansas Highway Patrol officials said the fatal accident occurred right after 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

It happened on U.S. 54.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash.

The responding troopers discovered that the 21-year-old driver of  BMW was passing a semi when he struck an oncoming semi head-on and then crashed into the other semi’s side saddle tank.

Troopers said the oncoming semi overturned onto its passenger side.

The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was later identified as Joshua Barnes.

The 23-year-old passenger of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The drivers of the semi-trucks were not injured, officials said.

This incident remains under investigation.
